My greatest experience.
Internship is often described as the bridge between academic knowledge and professional practice, and my experience at Dativa and Associates truly proved this to be true. My internship has been one of the most rewarding and transformative experiences of my academic journey. Throughout my internship, I have had the privilege of performing various tasks like vouching, filling tax returns, preparing financial statements, assisting staff in simple tasks like making some edits and participation in internal audit where l was involved in reviewing cash and bank, examining quarterly performance, assessing payroll records, verifying compliance with statutory obligations such as PAYE and NSSF, and evaluating client communication channels.
One of the most valuable lessons I have leant is that auditing is far more than checking figures in financial statements. It involves understanding an organization’s operations, identifying risks, evaluating internal controls, and providing practical recommendations that help organizations improve their governance, accountability, and operational efficiency. This realization changed the way I view the auditing profession and strengthened my passion for pursuing a career in audit.
Internship has significantly improved my technical skills, like I became more confident in reviewing accounting records and analyzing financial information. At the same time, I developed essential soft skills, including communication, teamwork, time management, report writing, attention to detail. Every assignment presented a new learning opportunity that contributed to my professional growth.
The mentorship and guidance I received from the partner and staff at Dativa and Associates were invaluable. Their willingness to explain concepts, provide constructive feedback, and encourage continuous learning created an environment where I felt supported and motivated to improve every day. Their commitment to excellence inspired me to develop a stronger work ethic and greater confidence in my abilities.
Looking back, I can confidently say that this internship has transformed me from a student with theoretical knowledge into a young professional with practical experience and a deeper appreciation of the accounting and auditing profession. It has strengthened my career aspirations and equipped me with knowledge and skills that will continue to guide me throughout my professional journey.
